FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Software Forces SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists) service pack 1, for Crystal Enterprise 9 Released

Software Forces enables dynamic values for parameter pick lists with  SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists) for Crystal Enterprise 9 and ePortfolio. Service pack 1 brings several new features.

FOREST HILLS, NY – Dec. 23, 2003Software Forces today announced the immediate general availability the first service pack for SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists). Designed for use with Crystal Enterprise 9 -- SPL 2 brings ease of use and performance to published reports, where values for parameters (pick lists) can now be dynamic, retrieved from a data source. No longer will a report designer need to modify the static pick lists in a report and save it back to Crystal Enterprise.

SPL 2 integrates with Crystal Enterprise 9 ePortfolio and supports both View-On-Demand and Schedule. SPL 2 can also integrate with a custom frontend of your choice using our Smart™ API SDK.

"With this service pack, we’ve addressed a few feature requests from our users. I’m pleased that we were able to address them so quickly.” said Gennady Kleyner, Software Forces product manager.

“Having to constantly update parameter pick lists in Crystal Enterprise is a very daunting task, especially if you have a vast number of reports to manage.  SPL 2 offers a very well designed and easy to use solution to this problem.  Not only is the tool easy to administer, but it is also easy to integrate with ePortfolio even if you have customizations.  SPL 2 has dramatically helped us to focus on report design and publishing by knowing that we can populate parameter pick lists as needed using SPL.” said Greg Steindl, Minitab Inc.

What's New in Service Pack 1 (SP 1)

Improved support of parameters based on stored procedures. A parameter built from a stored procedure allows a single value to be sent back to the stored procedure. Now you can override this (with out modification to the report) to support multiple values and control the delimiter used to separate the values.

Added refresh support to SPL 2 managed reports. If parameters were modified in the original report (added, re-ordered, removed, renamed), it is now possible to refresh these updates to an existing managed report. This allows existing settings to be retained.

Our MMC based snap-in for management now supports using CE Logon Tokens if desired.

Added support for additional viewers such as HTML, ActiveX, Java, etc. in addition to the previous DHML viewer.
