FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Software Forces SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists) for Crystal Enterprise 9 Released

Software Forces enables dynamic values for parameter pick lists with  SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists) for Crystal Enterprise 9 and ePortfolio.

FOREST HILLS, NY – Nov. 24, 2003Software Forces today announced the immediate general availability of SPL 2 (Smart Pick Lists). Designed for use with Crystal Enterprise 9 -- SPL 2 brings ease of use and performance to published reports, where values for parameters (pick lists) can now be dynamic, retrieved from a data source. No longer will a report designer need to modify the static pick lists in a report and save it back to Crystal Enterprise.

SPL 2 integrates with Crystal Enterprise 9 ePortfolio and supports both View-On-Demand and Schedule. SPL 2 can also integrate with a custom frontend of your choice using our Smart™ API SDK.

"We are very excited about this third generation of our dynamic parameter solution for Crystal Enterprise. Our test sites were pleased at how simple it was to add reports to SPL for management and configure all or some of a report's parameter(s) to be dynamic and/or dynamic cascading." said Gennady Kleyner, Software Forces product manager.

What's New

Out-of-the-box ePortfolio integration: Enables companies that use ePortfolio as their default front end to take immediate advantage of SPL 2. This reduces the user's learning curve by maintaining a lot of the same look and feel during parameter selection, while at the same time improving performance in many areas and adding support for iFrame and Pop-up.

MMC based snap-in for management: Enables report designers and/or administrators to manage SPL 2. Using this snap-in you create and maintain Connections to database servers that SPL 2 will use, select reports that SPL 2 will manage, configure parameters used to manage SPL 2 in creating Connections to data source(s), selecting reports from Crystal Enterprise to be managed, associating connections with parameters, and deciding which parameters should be dynamic or dynamic with cascade(s). Also supports testing connection and preview of data from data source.

iFrame or Pop-up browser support: Enables a faster and richer client experience. Unless configured in the SPL 2 MMC to always use Pop-up, SPL 2 automatically detects browser support of iFrame or will drop-down to support Pop-up. Either method is combined with additional internal optimizations to reduce the client-to-server and server-to-client traffic, which improves performance and uses less network bandwidth.

'Smart API': Enables developers to integrate SPL 2 functionality in to custom frontends or applications. SPL 2 ePortfolio integration was built using this API.

'XML Control Factory': Enables web controls to be built dynamically. SPL 2 ships with a predefined collection of standard controls. These controls are defined using our 'XML Control API', which allows developers to over ride the default controls, or add additional controls. These controls are then rendered by our patent pending 'XML Control Factory' and displayed on the client frontend.
